ESB Powdered Brewery Wash (PBW) 500g — Professional-Grade Brewing Cleaner

PBW (Powdered Brewery Wash) by ESB is the go-to alkaline cleaner trusted by home brewers and commercial breweries alike. Its oxygen-based formula breaks down stubborn organic residues — wort, hop oils, yeast films, and protein build-up — without the harshness of caustic soda or the risks of chlorine-based cleaners.

Clean equipment means better-tasting beer. PBW makes that easy.

Why Brewers Choose PBW

Unlike bleach or caustic cleaners, PBW is non-caustic and non-corrosive, making it safe to handle without heavy-duty PPE and gentle on your equipment over the long term. It rinses away cleanly with no lingering chemical taint that could affect your brew's flavour.

  • Non-caustic and non-corrosive formula
  • Biodegradable and septic-safe
  • No residual taste or odour after rinsing
  • Works in both hot and cold water (hot water enhances performance)
  • Safe on stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, glass, and plastic

What to Clean with PBW

PBW is effective across all stages of the brewing process and suitable for:

  • Fermenters, kettles, and boiling vessels
  • Kegs and beer lines
  • Taps, valves, and pipework
  • Bottles and carboys
  • Any surface with stubborn organic or protein deposits

How to Use

For general cleaning, dissolve approximately 15–30g of PBW per litre of warm water. Apply to surfaces or soak equipment for 15–30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. For heavily soiled equipment or overnight soak, use the lower end of the dosage.

At 500g, this pack delivers multiple cleaning sessions for a typical home brew setup — ideal for between-batch cleaning of fermenters, kegs, and associated gear.

Good to Know

PBW is a cleaner, not a sanitiser. After cleaning with PBW, always follow up with a no-rinse sanitiser such as Star San before your next brew to ensure a contamination-free fermentation.
