Sodium Metasilicate Penta 25kg is a versatile, inorganic compound used widely in cleaning and detergent industries. This beneficial compound boosts cleaning efficiency with its high alkalinity and solubility. It's easy to use; simply dissolve in water before applying as a cleaner or detergent booster. Note that proper handling, in line with safety guidelines, is crucial due to its corrosive nature. With 25kg packaging, it's ideal for extensive industrial applications.

Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate 25kg — Heavy-Duty Alkaline Cleaner for Breweries & Craft Producers

Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate is a high-alkalinity cleaning compound widely used in commercial brewing, winemaking, and distilling operations where thorough, cost-effective cleaning at scale is essential. Its powerful alkaline action cuts through baked-on organic residues, protein films, hop oils, wort deposits, and mineral scale — making it an industry staple for CIP (clean-in-place) systems and large vessel cleaning.

At 25kg, this is a trade and production quantity suited to craft breweries, micro-distilleries, and serious high-volume operators.

Why It's Used in Brewing & Production

Sodium metasilicate works by saponifying (breaking down) fats and proteins and emulsifying them for easy rinsing. Its high pH in solution makes it highly effective at dissolving the kind of stubborn organic build-up that accumulates in fermenters, kettles, and heat exchangers after repeated production cycles — residue that lighter cleaners often can't shift.

  • Powerful alkaline formula — high-pH cleaning for heavy organic soils
  • Effective on protein deposits, wort residue, yeast films, and hop oils
  • Highly soluble — dissolves readily in warm water for fast preparation
  • Economical at scale — low use rate means this 25kg pack goes a long way
  • Suitable for CIP systems, soak cleaning, and manual scrubbing applications

Typical Applications

Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is used across brewing, winemaking, and food production for cleaning and pre-sanitising surfaces including:

  • Brewing kettles, boiling vessels, and heat exchangers
  • Fermenters and conditioning tanks
  • CIP circuits and spray ball systems
  • Winery tanks, presses, and barrel washing
  • Stainless steel process pipework and fittings

How to Use

Dilute at 0.5–2% in warm to hot water (approximately 5–20g per litre) depending on soil load and application. Higher concentrations and hotter water improve cleaning performance on heavily soiled surfaces. Apply by soaking, spray-cleaning, or recirculation through CIP systems. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water after use — sodium metasilicate leaves an alkaline residue if not fully rinsed, which can affect downstream processes and sanitiser efficacy.

For routine cleaning between batches, a 1% solution is typically sufficient. For periodic deep cleaning or heavily fouled equipment, step up to 2%.

Important Safety Information

Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is a corrosive alkaline compound. Always wear appropriate PPE when handling — chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing are essential. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and ensure adequate ventilation when working with warm solutions. Store in a sealed container in a cool, dry location, away from acids.

This is a cleaner, not a sanitiser. Always follow up with an appropriate brewery sanitiser (such as Star San or equivalent) before production to ensure a contamination-free environment.

Good to Know

Sodium metasilicate should not be used on aluminium surfaces — it reacts aggressively with aluminium and will cause corrosion and pitting. It is safe for stainless steel, glass, and most plastics when used at recommended concentrations and contact times.
