Keep your homebrew equipment spotless with this eco-friendly, oxygen-based cleaner. Sodium Percarbonate (OxiClean) dissolves easily in warm water to deep-clean fermenters, bottles, kegs, and lines — lifting yeast residue, stains, and build-up without leaving behind any odours or chemical traces: no rinsing stress, no off-flavours, just cleaner gear and better brew.

Sodium Percarbonate 500g — Oxygen-Based Brewery Cleaner

Sodium percarbonate is an oxygen-releasing alkaline cleaner used by home brewers and winemakers to remove organic stains, dried yeast residue, wort deposits, and tannin build-up from brewing equipment. When dissolved in warm water, it releases active oxygen, which breaks down organic residues without leaving any chemical odour or taste behind — meaning no risk of taint carrying over into your next batch.

It's an affordable, effective alternative to PBW for general brew equipment cleaning, and is particularly well suited to bottle soaking, fermenter rinsing, and removing stubborn staining from glass and plastic vessels.

Cleaner vs Sanitiser — Know the Difference

Sodium percarbonate is a cleaner, not a sanitiser. Its job is to remove visible and invisible organic residue from surfaces. Before any brew, you still need to follow your cleaning with a food-grade sanitiser to kill remaining bacteria and wild yeast. The correct sequence is always: clean first, sanitise second.

How It Compares to PBW

Both sodium percarbonate and PBW are oxygen-based alkaline cleaners suitable for home brewing. Sodium percarbonate is the more economical option and works well for most standard cleaning tasks, particularly soaking bottles and fermenters. PBW has a more complex formulation that may perform better on heavily soiled stainless steel equipment and stubborn protein deposits. For most home brewers, sodium percarbonate handles the everyday workload reliably.

What to Clean with It

  • Fermenters, lids, and airlocks between batches
  • Glass and PET bottles before filling
  • Brewing spoons, siphons, and tubing
  • Wine demijohns and carboys
  • Brew kettles and boiling vessels
  • Beer and wine staining on any food-safe surface

How to Use

Dissolve approximately 5–10g per litre of warm water (40–50°C activates the oxygen release more effectively). Soak equipment for 15–30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. For heavily stained bottles or stubborn deposits, an overnight soak at a lower concentration works well.

At 500g, this pack provides approximately 50–100 cleaning sessions, depending on dosage and application — excellent value for regular batch cleaning.

Key Features

  • Oxygen-based formula — no harsh chemical residues or odours
  • Breaks down into water and oxygen — biodegradable and septic-safe
  • Effective on organic stains, including yeast, wort, tannins, and hop oils
  • Safe on glass, PET plastic, stainless steel, and food-grade materials
  • No rinsing difficulties — rinses away cleanly

Good to Know

Store in a cool, dry place with the lid sealed tightly. Sodium percarbonate degrades over time when exposed to moisture, so avoid keeping it in a humid environment. If the powder has clumped or lost its fizz when dissolved in water, it may have lost some effectiveness.
